A large impressionist style French outdoor / street scene/cafe painting composition. People doing ordinary things fascinate me this painting was made from three scenes I had seen. The first being the two women sitting in the background were laughing at each others jokes and watching the world go by. The poets were a noisy bunch at two tables that I have joined to make them fit into the painting. The third part of the painting is the man in the foreground, what they call a Lounge lizard I think, sitting in on the poets discussion. I like shifting things and people around in my paintings or building from a basic idea. A composition such as this, where I have stolen the Poet, Pablo Neruda or an actor representing him and his postman friend from a favourite movie of mine.. 'Il Postino', a great movie if you haven't seen it.
This artwork is still being worked on .. just like any painting shown on this website that is in my studio. Usually it is just a subtle change or addition to an artwork, I promise that if you buy it, I will not come around to your home and do more alterations to it.

A painting from back in the days when people had a whole lot of fun at their local restaurant. This place in Takapuna near the beach, was once called 'The Live Nude Muscle' by John, then 'Numero Uno' by Judy Winter. One night a very important lady in a suit arrived with her tightly pursed red lips and a rule book .. she banned laughing too loud, she banned dancing, she banned smoking.
