Landscape art from Crimea. 'Siverskaya ,The view to the bridge' Fine art by Tanya Balaeve
$NZ 1050.00
Painted at ‘plein air ‘ at the very special
for me place Siverskaya . It is in 75 km from St.Petersburg .We used to have summer house there and I spent 33 summers of
my life there . I loved every tree and
every foot path in my favorite parks by beautiful river Ordezh with it’s red sandy shores . But sadly after my grandfather passed away
the house was sold , I could do nothing about it ,and to part with Siverskaya was
like to part with a beloved person forever . 8 years passed but I still
feel the same way about it.
I
thought it is just me ,who was so
attached to this land ,but reading
autobiographical book by Vladimir Nabokov
“ Other shores “ to my surprise I read exactly how I feel – he wrote about almost the same
area –his family Mansion in Vira was
just in a few km from our house, the
same train station ,the same river . He loved it and lost it forever ,just like
I did.
I like to look at the old photos of Siverskaya taken over 100 years ago and I did recognized the places where I painted so often . It was a really popular summer resort for well-off citizens of St.Petersburg in the 19th -20th centuries . Many beautiful summer villas were built then ,but I only remember a few ones left and mainly in ruins , as they were built of wood and neglected last several decades mostly they all were destroyed by fire . Some of houses belonged to well-known Russian writers and actors .
Russian Classical artists –Shishkin and Levitan painted there and their landscapes of Siverskaya also called “Russian Switzerland” are in main Russian museums now .
